Last week, John Thompson announced on ESPN 980 that Allen Iverson would not retire.
It appears that the former Georgetown coach’s vehement opposition to his one-time star retiring “out of frustration” could have helped end his brief — it was all of a week — hiatus.
The Philadelphia 76ers have offered Iverson a deal and he signed it on Wednesday — bringing The Answer back to team that drafted him.
The question now is — how long does AI stick around?
The Sixers say Iverson will replace Lou Williams — who’s expected to miss eight weeks with a broken jaw.
That’s a valid reason to sign the future Hall of Famer — and at a cheap price (the veterans minimum). However, even Thompson tailored his offense to fit Iverson while with the Hoyas.
With that in mind, we have a few questions:
Can Iverson fit into Sixers coach Eddie Jordan‘s Princeton offense?
Or will Philly have to run more?
The Sixers enter Wednesday with a 5-13 record, is AI being brought in to take over?
How much more than the value of his contract will he bring back in ticket sales?
How many jerseys will he sell? (They’ve changed since he was there last).
When Williams comes back, will AI come off the bench?
Will he be required to practice?
Will he have to talk ’bout it?
Seems like the Sixers have acquired many questions with a single Answer.
