DANDRIDGE, Tenn. (AP) — The Jefferson County Economic Development Oversight Committee is pursuing megasite designation for a 1,800-acre-plus site near the intersection of Interstate 40 and Interstate 81.
According to a news release from the Chamber of Commerce, the proposed site would be designed to attract an automotive manufacturer and associated suppliers. Officials hope it will bring hundreds of high-quality jobs to the region.

Five certified megasites in the Tennessee Valley Authority service area have been sold to major corporations, including Volkswagen in Chattanooga and Hemlock Semiconductor in Clarksville.
To qualify for certification through TVA, the land has to be immediately available; be situated close to interstate highways, railways and suppliers; and demonstrate a plentiful labor supply, among other things.
Certification is expected to take eight to 12 months.
