Rep.
Mike Rogers
(R-AL), the newly elected chairman of the
House Armed Services Committee
, announced his intent to investigate “woke” social advocacy in the
Department of Defense
.
The Alabama congressman, who has held his seat for two decades, said in his first statement since being named chairman of the committee that the panel would “leave no stone unturned” in its quest to hold the administration accountable for policies he described as serving “a social agenda.”
“The committee will also hold the Biden administration accountable for misguided policies that distract from the core mission of the Department of Defense. Initiatives that service a social agenda but don’t advance our national security will be scrutinized,” he said. “Those in charge of these initiatives will come before the committee to explain how they will protect our national security. We will leave no stone unturned in holding the Biden administration accountable.”

Since the start of the
Biden administration
, conservatives have accused the Department of Defense of overemphasizing diversity and inclusion to the detriment of the military’s readiness and cohesion, whereas Democrats and many DOD leaders believe it has the opposite effect.
Rogers, in a previous statement to the
Washington Examiner
from November, said, “Capability and lethality are the two most important aspects of a successful military.”
“
China
has spent the last decade focusing on both,” he added at the time. “To maintain the U.S.’s position as the world’s most capable and lethal fighting force we must continue to make investments in everything from the warfighter to the weapons they wield. The United States has an incredible all-volunteer force, but it needs to be competitive with the private sector as a career — that means improving the quality of life for our enlisted service members and their families.”

Rep.
Chip Roy
(R-TX) and Sen.
Marco Rubio
(R-FL) released a joint report in November deriding the Biden administration’s emphasis on the so-called woke agenda. The 18-page
report
— titled Woke Warfighters: How Political Ideology is Weakening America’s Military — rebukes military academies for supposedly teaching critical race theory, a decades-old concept that claims U.S. institutions were created with the implicit design to keep whites ahead of minorities, while promoting LGBT issues and transgenderism.
