Nickles on Nichols

Last week, The Washington Examiner’s Alan Suderman had the scoop on a D.C. audit blasting the Fenty administration for failing to hire locals on construction projects.

City Auditor Deborah Nichols said the actions violated local living wage laws and might have cost the District some $14 million in lost wages.

Attorney General Peter Nickles takes issue with the report. In a letter released Thursday, Nickles says Nichols didn’t bother to reach out to Team Fenty to check her facts.

He said the Fenty administration has been following the law faithfully, but it  ”is limited in scope” and therefore “does not provide a boost to all wage earners.”

Mayor Adrian Fenty is facing reelection and D.C. has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.

Nickles and Nichols have respectfully disagreed before. So stay tuned.
