‘Responsible social distancing’: Whoopi Goldberg co-hosts The View from home despite doctor approval to return to set

Whoopi Goldberg participated in the latest episode of The View from her home over coronavirus fears despite a doctor clearing her to be in studio.

“This is what we call responsible, you know, social distancing. So, you know, I went to the doctor yesterday to check myself out just to make sure, and he gives me the all-clear to go to work, and I’m getting ready to do it, and then I start hearing these inconsistent messages from everyone,” she explained on the show Wednesday.

Goldberg then referenced the inconsistent messaging coming from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio about whether a shelter-in-place order would be implemented for New York City, which would severely restrict the movement of most residents in order to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

“Until they can get themselves together, the governor and the mayor — until they can figure out what they’re doing, I should not go in,” she explained.

“So that’s why I’m still here. I am healthy. My doctor was very annoyed with me. He was like, ‘I just gave you the okay. Why are you back?’ I said, ‘Because I need a okay okay.’ So he gave me the okay okay, but I just felt like, you know, with all this inconsistency between the governor and the mayor, it just, it wasn’t good for me, and you know who can’t even figure out what is going on or what to call the pandemic,” she continued.

Goldberg, who was not present remotely or in person for Tuesday’s episode, is not the only regular co-host to have missed the show over the coronavirus. Joy Behar, 77, is self-quarantining because she is at risk of having a severe case of the virus if she contracts it.

Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in all 50 states, with more than 6,500 U.S. cases as of Wednesday morning, according to Johns Hopkins.
