Pro-Cruz super PAC: ‘His opponents lie about his record’

A pro-Ted Cruz super PAC has increased its outreach efforts in the early nominating states.

Keep the Promise I unveiled a new digital ad that “will be strategically targeted on social media outlets” in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. The 60-second video features Cruz railing against Washington, D.C.

“When we launched our campaign the New York Times promptly opined, ‘Cruz cannot win because the Washington elites despise him.’ I kind of thought that was the whole point of the campaign,” Cruz can be heard saying in the ad. “If you think things are going great in Washington, and we need to keep going in the same direction and maybe just fiddle around the edges, then I ain’t your guy.”

“On the other hand, if you think that Washington is fundamentally broken … and we need to take power out of Washington and back to we the people — that is what this campaign is all about.”

Keep the Promise I also has plans to a large direct mail campaign in two early nominating states this week. The super PAC plans to send 130,000 mailers to Iowa, which prominently feature Iowa Rep. Steve King who endorsed Cruz’s candidacy. Keep the Promise I will also send 320,000 separate mailers to South Carolina this week.

Kellyanne Conway, president of Keep the Promise I, hopes the new efforts capitalize build upon the momentum that the senator has gained. A Monmouth University survey of Iowan voters released this week shows Cruz leading the Republican presidential field.

“As Cruz rises in the polls, his opponents lie about his record,” Conway said in a statement. “Ted Cruz is the only candidate who has boldly and consistently stood up to Obamacare, the nuclear deal with Iran, Schumer-Rubio amnesty, and put [the Islamic State] on notice that their days would be numbered in a Cruz administration.”

Cruz ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings, leapfrogging Donald Trump.
