Police reopen kidnapping case after video of woman's 'bloodcurdling' screams surfaces

The Los Angeles Police Department has reopened a kidnapping investigation after video from a doorbell camera showed a car driving by while a woman’s screams for help can be heard through the window.

The video was shared online after police responded to a potential kidnapping Tuesday in Los Angeles, California, but did not find any evidence of a crime, according to KTLA. Police reopened their investigation Wednesday after the video surfaced.

The footage shows a concerned couple on their front porch as a woman’s screams can be heard as a car speeds by. The woman shouts, “Help me please” and “Somebody help me” until the car is out of earshot.

The screams were described as “bloodcurdling” by a local reporter covering the incident, and a witness who saw the event unfold was left shaken.

“I’m bothered, and I’m rarely bothered,” Denise Bingham told ABC7. “I’m all shook up. I’m shaken up just talking about it. Her screams, I can’t forget it. I can’t forget it.”

LAPD officer Mike Lopez said detectives are looking for clues in the neighborhood. Anyone who may have information is encouraged to call the LAPD Southwest Division at 213-485-6570.
