House Speaker Nancy Pelosi invited the U.S. women’s national team to the Capitol after they won their second straight World Cup on Sunday.
The California Democrat praised the soccer team for its “strength, unity and patriotism” and said they are welcome to visit the Capitol individually or as a team.

The invite comes as President Trump appeared to walk back a White House invite for the team. Last month, Trump said the team would be invited regardless of the outcome.
“We haven’t really thought about it,” Trump said Sunday after the U.S. beat the Netherlands 2-0. “We’ll look at that.”
Trump made the original offer amid a public spat with Megan Rapinoe, who was named the most valuable player of the World Cup, after she said she would not visit “the f—— White House” if her team won.
Rapinoe has already accepted an invite from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to visit the Capitol.
“It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome @mPinoe & the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like,” the New York Democrat tweeted to the star player after the team beat France to advance to the semifinals.
“Consider it done,” Rapinoe wrote back.
