Sen. Michael Bennet responded to The View host Joy Behar comparing immigration raids to Nazi Germany by saying his family survived the Holocaust and he does not compare the two.
“Look, my mom and her parents were Polish Jews who survived the Holocaust. She was separated from her family during the course of the war,” Bennet said Thursday during an appearance on The View where he was promoting his run in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary. “I’m not equating the Holocaust to this.”
Bennet’s response came after Behar said she believed the immigration raids were similar to what happened to Jews in Nazi Germany.
“He’s going to raid these people’s houses and what have you. It’s really reminiscent of Nazi German, just saying,” Behar said. “I know you’re not supposed to make that connection, but I’ve been around long enough that I’ve read enough to know that this is very similar to what happened to the Jews. Go in and take them out of their houses.”
The acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cuccinelli told reporters Wednesday that the administration was planning on deportation raids for illegal immigrants that would target about 1 million people.
