Kid Rock has one last comment about Michael Moore and the troops. And it may be his best one yet.

Outspoken music star Kid Rock let Michael Moore have it for his comments about snipers last month. He’s explained himself a bit further in a New York Times interview about the whole deal — and this time he saved his best remark for a reminder about the duty of U.S. troops.

Rock told off Moore in the bluntest of terms for criticizing military snipers, saying “your uncle would be ashamed of you” (in reference to the family member Moore said he lost in World War II to a Japanese sniper). Moore said he was taught that snipers were “cowards,” and claimed that he “tried to save more lives than a sniper could ever hope to.” Rock, Moore’s fellow Michigander, told the Times he was itching for a chance to tell off the fiercely left-of-center filmmaker.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking for an excuse to tell Michael Moore to go [expletive] himself. When this came up, I was like, ‘There it is!’ ” he said. But Rock also had a bigger point to make about criticism of the U.S. military — no matter your opinion of the ones giving the orders.

“It was something that I could run my mouth on. I’ve been so connected to the military, so I thought it was my place. Everyone knows, or they should know if they’re going to comment, that these guys don’t create policy. They get their orders, and that’s what they’re supposed to do.”

Michigan’s official tourism website calls Rock “one of the country’s most ardent supporters of the United States military.” He has been recognized by the nonprofit Operation Troop aid for his efforts, which include performances and visits to U.S. facilities at home and abroad.
