Group threatens to attack police in ‘night of rage’

Police in Atlanta, and possibly nationally, are bracing for ambushes and even assassination attempts tonight after an anti-law enforcement group called for a “night of rage” to retaliate for the killing of one of the group’s members.

Protesters from “Scenes from the Atlanta Forest,” who have been trying to stop the development of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center in DeKalb County, posted a message calling for “retaliation” after Atlanta police exchanged fire with one of the members, injuring a law enforcement officer and leaving the protester dead.

“Consider this a call for reciprocal violence to be done to the police and their allies. On Friday, January 20th, wherever you are, you are invited to participate in a night of rage in order to honor the memory of our fallen comrade,” the group tweeted before its site was permanently removed by Elon Musk’s team.

On the group’s web page, it added, “MAKE THEM PAY.”

The Fraternal Order of Police, the nation’s largest law enforcement union, immediately called on officials to target the group.

“How much more blatant does the war on cops have to be before our elected leaders DO something?!” FOP tweeted.

In the tweet that included the group’s call for violence, FOP added, “We LITERALLY have a group that has shown they are violent calling for a ‘night of rage’ and for ‘reciprocal violence’ against the police after one violent dirtbag, who shot a cop, was shot and killed by officers.”

The group has already created another Twitter page where it is memorializing the protester killed in the self-defense shooting by police. That page also indicates there will be protests in “in solidarity with Atlanta” in Los Angeles and Portland and Olympia, Washington.

Officers on Wednesday were trying to clear the planned site for “Cop City” when they ordered one protester to leave, according to police. They said he did not comply and shot a Georgia State Patrol trooper. Police returned fire, killing him.

Police have been under fire since the death in Minnesota of George Floyd while he was being arrested. In 2020 protests occurred nationwide, including in Washington, D.C.

FOP this week said that in 2022, 331 police were shot and 62 were killed. That was a 13% increase from 2019.

“Enough is enough,” FOP said.
