GOP releases new ads targeting youth

Coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the GOP’s “Growth and Opportunity Project,” the Republican National Committee has unveiled an ad campaign that targets multiple demographics with which it’s working to build stronger relationships, including youth.

Billed “Create Your American Dream,” the ads feature six individuals explaining why they’re Republican in the context of current politics and policy debates in Washington. Two of them are Millennials and speak to issues of particular relevance to younger generations.

“I feel pretty lucky to have a job. So many people I know are unemployed, and it’s like their lives are stuck in neutral,” Scott Greenberg, whom National Journal identified as a public relations employee of the Washington Ballet, says in one of the ads. “So I get ticked off at politicians who say they want to help the unemployed, and then vote for regulations that make impossible to hire anyone. Listen: You can’t help the unemployed by hurting the people that could employ them. I’m a Republican because my friends need a paycheck, not an empty promise.”

Greenberg is noticeably “hipster” in appearance, all the way to his glasses; maybe Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) is on to something.

Even the ad campaign’s lone, older white male devotes his screen time to talking about youth, expressing concern about the strength of the social safety net for his kids and grandchildren.

“If things don’t change, we’re going to bankrupt these programs, or bankrput our kids,” Jim Fornof states.
