WATCH: Democratic leaders respond to Trump's prime-time address

Democrat leaders, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., are hosting a press conference in response to Trump’s assertions made in his prime-time address held from the Oval Office to discuss the partial government shutdown and the border wall that the Trump administration has insisted on funding.

Trump stated that drugs were a major factor in the need for a border wall and increased border security, saying that more Americans will die from drugs in 2019 than those that were killed during the Vietnam War.

Trump and Democrats have been locking heads since late December when the government went into a partial shutdown after Trump insisted on $5 billion in funding for a border wall and border security. Democrats rebuffed his request and very little movement has been made.

While there has been speculation that Trump might declare a national emergency to get the border wall built, reports today indicate that Trump is leaning away from that possibility and is instead going to push harder for a compromise.
