Sean Spicer’s non-answer confirms ignorance: The White House has no idea what Trump is thinking

Who knew that healthcare could be so complicated or that the White House could be so clueless? Apparently reporters from conservative-leaning outlets.

On Monday, President Trump tweeted that he had suggested adding “more dollars to Healthcare and make it the best anywhere.” And on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer revealed his own ignorance.

Asked by our own Sarah Westwood what exactly that meant, Spicer offered an inconclusive word-vomit of filler phrases and vague generalities. The best Spicer could offer was the unsupported conclusion that Trump’s been “very clear” about his position. Except no, no the president hasn’t been clear.

No one doubts that Trump wants the best for the country. Though low on policy knowledge and high on his love of country, he genuinely wants to overhaul Obamacare because it’s doing more harm than good. So Spicer was correct when he said that “the bottom line is that he’s going to do whatever it takes to make sure people have quality, accessible healthcare.”

But Spicer was wrong to imply that Trump has a final healthcare product in mind. He more than likely doesn’t, as is evident by his wildly varying statements where he praises the free market one day before publicly admiring socialized healthcare systems the next.

“The bill is in the progress,” the beleaguered press secretary said, offering another illuminating non-answer when Westwood followed up. “Obviously it’s in the Senate right now and he’s willing to work with them to do what it takes.”

After the short exchange, there’s only one thing that’s remotely clear: After four months, Spicer and company still don’t know what the president is thinking.
