Following in the footsteps of Democratic colleagues such as Barack Obama and Al Gore, former President Bill Clinton is ready to make his TV producer debut.
This week, History Channel announced its partnership with Clinton, who will act as executive producer on a project examining the response of presidents during challenging times throughout U.S. history.
“We started talking to President Clinton and his team, and we talked about a vision to work together,” A+E Networks Group President Paul Buccieri told Deadline Thursday. “It was solidified after History Talks. He had a wonderful experience, and it’s so gratifying seeing him full immersed in this project as an executive producer. He’s really, really involved, breaking the creative, it’s fantastic. It’s quite a personal project for him.”
History Talks was a traveling speaker series that included a recent discussion at Carnegie Hall in New York City between Clinton and former President George W. Bush.
Clinton joins other high-profile former politicians who have turned to TV after retirement. In 2018, Barack and Michelle Obama inked a multiproduction deal with streaming giant Netflix, which resulted in the Obamas winning an Academy Award for 2019’s American Factory. Clinton is also executive producing a Showtime adaptation of The President Is Missing, the novel that he wrote with James Patterson.
