Midnight fountain dip leads to sexual assault at University of Maryland

University of Maryland police say at least one student was sexually assaulted just after midnight Saturday morning when she and other women stripped to their underwear to swim in a campus fountain.

The group of female students placed their clothing and property alongside the McKeldin Mall fountain while they took a dip. A group of eight to 10 men and women found them in the fountain and took their property.

One woman reported that a man grabbed her buttocks.

The thieves fled, leaving a trail of the women’s belongings behind them. Most of the property was recovered, police said.

The University of Maryland Department of Public Safety is investigating the crime.
