CLEVELAND — As many as a dozen guests of the California delegation at the Republican National Convention have the norovirus illness.
According to the Los Angeles Times’ Seema Mehta, the number of sick guests or staff members is anywhere from one-12. Norovirus is sometimes known as the cruise ship virus.
Norovirus’ symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, fever and diarrhea. The illness is highly contagious and typically spreads through crowded areas. It’s only deadly in rare circumstances.
“The 550 delegates, alternates and guests were advised by the California GOP to avoid shaking hands with others, to wash hands frequently, to avoid sharing food and to not use the delegation buses to the convention if they have any symptoms, according to the delegation email,” Mehta writes.
It’s unclear if those suspected to have the illness are quarantined in their hotel, which is an hour away from the convention site in Cleveland.
