Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen on Wednesday will show lawmakers a check signed by President Trump that he says is the reimbursement he got for making hush-money payments during the 2016 campaign.
Cohen says that the check, which he will show to the House Oversight Committee during his public testimony, was signed by Trump while he was president, and the CFO of Trump Organization, Allen Howard Weisselberg.
The check was meant to be reimbursement for the money Cohen paid to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Daniels alleges she had an extramarital affair with Trump.
Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., said Wednesday that the check proves that Trump believes he is above the law.
“It suggests to me — and I think most Americans — that Donald Trump is devoid of a moral foundation,” Speier told CNN Wednesday morning. “That it is all about promoting himself at everyone’s expense, and that violating the law is irrelevant to him.”

Cohen said in his prepared testimony that Trump is a “racist,” “con man,” and “cheat.”
Cohen faces three years in prison for lying to Congress and violating campaign finance laws by carrying out hush-money payments on behalf of Trump.
After his public testimony Wednesday, Cohen will appear before the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday in a classified hearing.
