Trump: Michael Cohen’s court problem ‘doesn’t have to do with me’

President Trump on Thursday put distance between himself and his lawyer, Michael Cohen, who is reportedly ready to plead the Fifth Amendment in the case that’s building against him.

Reports late Wednesday said Cohen would not answer questions about his payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, allegedly to buy her silence about an affair with Trump.

“Michael is in business, he’s really a businessman, a fairly big business if I understand it,” he said on Fox News. “I don’t know his business. But this doesn’t have to do with me.”

Trump said Cohen was just one of his lawyers, and did just some of his legal work.

“As a percentage of my overall legal work, a tiny, tiny little fraction,” he said.

“But Michael would represent me and represent me on some things,” he said. “He represents me like with this crazy Stormy Daniels deal, he represented me and you know, from what I see, he did absolutely nothing wrong.”

When asked why Cohen would plead the Fifth Amendment, Trump said it was likely over other issues.

“Because he’s got other things, he’s got businesses, and from what I understand they’re looking at his businesses,” he said.
