Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., predicted on Sunday 55 senators will vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, a bold claim that would mean several Democrats would side with Republicans.
Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings start Tuesday. If he does well, Graham, a member of the Judiciary Committee, said, “he will get, my belief is 55 or higher. If he does well. I’m sure he will do well.” Only 51 votes would be needed to confirm Kavanaugh.
“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace pointed out that would mean at least four Democrats would have to support Kavanaugh for this to happen after a replacement for the late Sen. John McCain is appointed.
“Well, That’s 55 last time I checked,” Graham replied with a laugh. “I’m not good at math. Yea I think there are a handful of Democrats will vote for judge Kavanaugh if he does well.”
Graham went on to say that Kavanaugh is a “qualified conservative” that would be on the top of any Republican president’s list, pushing back on Democrats’ opposition to the nomination amid complaints about document releases and the possibility of criminal proceedings against Trump or a possible impeachment vote.
