Fewer people are “very dissatisfied” with the
current state of the United States
compared to recent years, according to Gallup’s annual January Mood of the Nation poll.

The poll,
released on Tuesday
, still found the general tone of the country was
negative
but markedly less so than in 2021 and 2022. According to the poll, 48% of voters said they were “very dissatisfied” with the current state, down from 51% in 2022 and 66% in 2021. Another 28% said they were “somewhat dissatisfied.”

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the poll found 23% of respondents claiming they were “somewhat” or “very satisfied” with the state of the country, up from 17% in 2022 and 11% in 2021.

The drive behind the drop in those dissatisfied with the country comes from
Democrats
and
independents
.

POLL: AMERICANS NOT OPTIMISTIC ABOUT GOVERNMENT, ECONOMY

The largest answer for Democrats was “somewhat dissatisfied,” with 36% of Democratic respondents claiming they were “somewhat dissatisfied.” Only 28% of Democrats described themselves as “very dissatisfied” in this month’s poll, down from 73% in January 2021.

Forty-six percent of independents voted “very dissatisfied” this year, compared to 62% in 2021, according to Gallup.

“The percentage of Republicans who are very dissatisfied has ticked up since 2021,”
Gallup said
. “Likely because of the change from a Republican to a Democratic presidential administration that occurred after the 2021 survey was conducted.”
