John McEntee, President Trump’s personal assistant, was fired Monday for an unknown security problem, according to a report.
McEntee was escorted out of the White House quickly and was not allowed to gather his things, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. It’s unclear why he was terminated, but he reportedly told fellow White House employees it was related to a problem in his background check.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told the Wall Street Journal, “We don’t comment on personnel issues.”
McEntee worked for Trump’s presidential campaign during the 2016 election, and will return as a senior adviser for campaign operations, the Trump campaign announced Tuesday.
The former personal assistant to the president joins a number of White House officials who have departed in recent weeks, including former White House communications director Hope Hicks.
