Conservative commentator Ann Coulter gave a bad review to President Trump’s second State of the Union speech on Tuesday.
“‘Golden beaches of California’? This was the lamest, sappiest, most intentionally tear-jerking SOTU ever. Please fire your speechwriter, @realDonaldTrump,” Coulter said in tweet near the end of the speech delivered to a packed House chamber.

Trump made the reference to California while noting how there were lawmakers in the room from all points across the country.
Coulter, one of Trump’s staunchest but also demanding allies on his push for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, got frustrated when the topic was hardly touched upon in the first half of the speech.
“45 minutes in, we got 30 seconds on the wall. He better be breaking ground tomorrow,” she said.

Trump did focus more on the wall later in the speech, calling on Republicans and Democrats in Congress to come together for a compromise on border security. He did not mention the recent 35-day partial government shutdown that stemmed from that fight.
While he called for a bipartisan solution, Trump also hinted that he would make good on his threat to use a national emergency declaration to divert funds from the military to get the project done if a long-term spending deal to avert another shutdown in 10 days doesn’t include money for a physical barrier. “In the past, most of the people in this room voted for a wall — but the proper wall never got built. I’ll get it built,” he said.
Coulter tied the issue of border security to Trump’s words condemning socialism. “Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country,” Trump said, turning a rebuke of socialism in Venezuela into a swipe at democratic socialists in the room, including freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“WRONG! If you don’t build a wall & deport illegals, we’ll be a socialist country in about 5 years. Nice words though,” Coulter blared.

Coulter also connected the wall to national security — in particular the fight against the Islamic State.
“Americans in America killed by ISIS: 0. Americans in America killed by illegals: tens of thousands. BRING THE TROOPS HOME AND GET THEM BUILDING THE WALL,” she tweeted.

In another tweet, Coulter remarked on Trump’s declarations to fight childhood cancer and AIDS and also snarked about the considerable amount of time spent in the speech touching on the fight against Nazi Germany and the Holocaust during World War II. Some of Trump’s honored guests, whom he recognized, were WWII veterans and Holocaust survivors. He also lauded a young girl,10-year-old Grace Eline, who was treated for brain cancer and who had also raised thousands of dollars for the fight against cancer.
“So Trump is AGAINST childhood cancer, AIDS and the Holocaust. Glad I tuned in to hear that,” Coulter said.

Ultimately, Coulter indicated that the speech was too much of a roller coaster for her and said she checked out early.
“I was too tired to watch his whole speech,” she tweets in response to another user who noted how long the speech was: around 82 minutes.
