SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A proposal to put double-decker tour buses on the streets of Savannah’s downtown historic district is drawing criticism.
Residents fear the buses may hit ancient oak limbs and give sightseers a peeping Tom’s view into Victorian homes. The Savannah Downtown Neighborhood Association is urging city officials to deny the request from two Boston businessmen.

Steve Caplan and Tom O’Connor are the investors. Their attorney argues the buses would be a foot below the minimum clearance the city requires for maintaining its tree canopy, though residents insist some branches hang lower. Their attorney, Julie Wade, also says the privacy worries are overblown.
City Hall has referred to proposal to an advisory committee and it’s not clear exactly when they will decide on the double-decker buses.
