‘Perhaps Conan is like Lassie’: Fox correspondent wonders whether military dog was really at White House

Conan’s confusing gender controversy has left some pondering whether the dog at the White House was the same animal that took part in the raid to kill ISIS leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.

There have been several conflicting reports between the Pentagon and the White House as to the gender of the military dog, Conan. Conan played an important role in cornering al Baghdadi before his suicide during a raid on his lair in western Syria. The dog was injured by exposed electrical wires during the raid, but quickly recovered and was returned to duty.

During a visit to the White House on Monday, President Trump claimed Conan was male, but Pentagon officials later said it was female. The conflicting reports led Fox News chief White House correspondent John Roberts and others to wonder if the dog photographed in the White House might not be the dog that cornered al Baghdadi.

Alex Griswold of the Washington Free Beacon jokingly floated the theory in October just after the raid took place.

Trump honored Conan with a service award and a plaque in an Oval Office meeting prior to the pup’s appearance before the press in the Rose Garden. The president called the dog “incredible” and “the ultimate fighter.”
