White House staffers purposely use poor grammar when writing Trump tweets

White House staff try to mirror President Trump’s way of speaking when writing tweets for him, including using poor grammar, according to a new report Monday.

Aides often employ exclamation points, will capitalize certain words, and utilize similar syntax when drafting tweets for the president, two sources familiar with the process told the Boston Globe.

If a White House staffer would like Trump to address a subject on Twitter, the aide must compile a memo for the president that suggests several potential tweets. Trump then selects his favorite, or will occasionally make some edits before it is posted to his account.

Although shoddy grammar is specifically chosen for tweets, spelling errors are unintentional, one of the sources said.

“Tweets that are proposed are in his voice,” one source told the Boston Globe. “You want to do it in a way that fits his style.”

The report comes after Trump’s Twitter account tweeted over the weekend that first lady Melania Trump had returned to the White House following a kidney procedure, but incorrectly referred to her as “Melanie.” The tweet was deleted and replaced with the correct spelling of the first lady’s name.
