Former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell and others blasted journalist Jemele Hill for a viral tweet saying the United States is as “bad” as Nazi Germany.
“Been reading Isabel Wilkerson’s new book, ‘Caste,’ and if you were of the opinion that the United States wasn’t nearly as bad as Nazi Germany, how wrong you are. Can’t encourage you enough to read this masterpiece,” Hill tweeted Sunday.
“Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson was released on Aug. 4 and is described as an examination of “the unspoken caste system that has shaped America and shows how our lives today are still defined by a hierarchy of human divisions.” Oprah Winfrey announced she chose the book as her latest pick for her book club in August.
Grenell responded to Hill’s tweet, “Read a book. The Nazis murdered 6.5 million Jews.”

Others joined Grenell in criticizing her tweet.
Just the basic fact that you have a huge platform/make a solid living shitting on the President and haven’t been locked in a labor camp says this is the complete opposite of nazi germany.
Grow up.

Jemele Hill thinks Nazi Germany and the United States of America are comparable.

As someone whose family lived (and some not) through both Nazi and Communist regimes this is absolutely disgusting and @jemelehill, if you spent one month in a real authoritarian state you would come crying back here to kiss the ground you walked on in the USA. https://t.co/5fVgMQguzp

Hill made headlines in 2017 for labeling President Trump a “white supremacist” and has since been a staunch critic of the president.
“If you vote for Donald Trump, you are a racist. You have no wiggle room,” she tweeted in June.
