Kaylee Hartung moves effortlessly between covering sports one day and politics the next. She handles the sideline reporting duties on CBS College Sports for Navy football and works as an associate producer for “Face the Nation” with Bob Schieffer. It’s a balancing act she thoroughly enjoys.
Hartung also is a correspondent for CBSNews.com, where she created a new beat for the network’s daily webcast “Washington Unplugged.” Each week, she seeks out a young professional who is making a mark in Washington and profiles them for her series “Unplugged Under 40.”
“She is one the brightest stars at CBS,” Schieffer said. “The sky is the limit for her.”
Hartung has interviewed everyone from members of Congress and White House officials to reality TV stars and professional athletes. On Saturday, she again will be on the sideline working the Navy-Duke game.
Hartung on covering Navy football » Working with CBS Sports on Navy is a true joy for me. I grew up in Baton Rouge as an LSU fan, and I truly love college football. I really feel that people in this area who have never been to a Navy football game are missing out on a great thing. They have all the pageantry of big-time college football with the uniqueness that comes with being at a service academy. I think that our production team really does capture the essence of Navy football, but you really should see it in person.
Hartung on politicians and sports » It is one thing that both Democrats and Republicans can agree on. They both love sports and follow sports. I did some spots for CBS College Sports for the service academies, and senators along with congressmen and women were great about doing the spots. They all love college football.
Hartung on her busy week » I will do the sideline reporting on the Navy-Duke game and then take a train to New York. We will do “Face the Nation” from there this weekend, and then we will gear up for Tuesday night’s big midterm election coverage, so to say it is a busy weekend would be an understatement. But I really love what I am doing.
