“When a thing is funny, search it for a hidden truth,” it is said in George Bernard Shaw’s Back to Methuselah.
Turns out the truth was obvious and only a few minutes away in the case of Bobby Jindal Monday morning.
After the release of the Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case, the Louisiana governor (@BobbyJindal) jokingly tweeted this:
.@BarackObama is now googling “Can an Executive Order override Supreme Court?” #HobbyLobby
— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) June 30, 2014
Since Obama has been using executive orders to fill in for any and all branches of government that don’t act as he wishes (perhaps even ones we’ve never heard of), it is a pointed quip.
Quip, as in joke or pleasantry. But it seems that Jindal’s joke happened to be prophetic. Within two hours of Jindal’s tweet, Reuters Top News (@Reuters) posted its own news update.
#BREAKING: White House will consider whether president can act on his own to mitigate effect of Supreme Court contraception ruling
— Reuters Top News (@Reuters) June 30, 2014
Maybe Jindal is on to something.
