DOJ and Nadler staff to meet Tuesday ahead of contempt vote for Barr

Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler said his staff will meet with Justice Department officials on Tuesday to try to negotiate a deal on releasing a less-redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

Nadler, D-N.Y., said the Justice Department agreed to move the meeting from Wednesday to Tuesday.

Nadler announced he plans to hold a vote Wednesday to advance contempt charges against Attorney General William Barr, who defied a subpoena to turn over the full, unredacted report to Congress.

“It remains vital that the Committee obtain access to the full, unredacted report and the underlying materials,” Nadler said in a statement Monday evening. “At the moment, our plans to consider holding Attorney General Barr accountable for his failure to comply with our subpoena still stand.”

“My hope is that we make concrete progress at tomorrow’s meeting towards resolving this dispute. The Committee remains committed to finding a reasonable accommodation,” Nadler said.

Judiciary Committee officials said Nadler has requested a meeting with the DOJ “five times over the last six weeks.”
