New York City holds annual Halloween parade despite deadly attack

New York City held its annual Halloween parade Tuesday night just hours after a deadly attack in the city cost at least eight people their lives.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told NY1 that this year’s Halloween parade demonstrates the resilience of New Yorkers: “We’re out and we’re celebrating.”

The 44th annual Halloween parade was held with a “dramatically increased presence” of law enforcement on Tuesday evening following an act of Terror, according to Cuomo’s press secretary.

De Blasio and Cuomo were seen walking alongside one another at the parade.

One man is in custody after driving down a bike path in lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon and killing multiple people in what New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called an act of terrorism.

At least eight people were killed and more than a dozen injured in the attack, according to police.
