Lone star Barack
To walk into Texas’ Black Tie and Boots Ball was to know the true political magic of President Barack Obama. Upon entry to the Washington Harbor’s Gaylord Convention Sunday night, it became immediately clear that Texas had a new lone star and it wasn’t George W. Bush.
Alongside the traditional Texas attire, big hair and chicken fried steak, the booths selling Obama paraphernalia at first seemed out of place. However, after talking with some of the 11,000 guests, Yeas & Nays learned that Obama was right at home deep in the heart of Texas.
Rather than be sad over the loss of their favorite son, several guests said they were excited about Obama, clutching their newly bought shirts and buttons. One woman went so far as to say she bought her entire wardrobe for the swearing-in ceremony that night, but how she stored all that swag at the coat-check was unbeknownst to us. Everything’s big in Texas, and after being at its ball, looks as if Obama is the next big thing.
