Poll: More think Trump disrespects women after video release

More people think Donald Trump doesn’t respect women after the Friday release of a 2005 recording of the Republican presidential nominee making derogatory comments about them, according to a new poll.

According to the latest NBC News/Survey Monkey Weekly Election Tracking poll taken the week before the second presidential debate, 55 percent of likely voters said they don’t believe Trump respects women, but that number rose to 63 percent after the tape emerged.

Trump’s perception among women voters was already suffering after Hillary Clinton called out Trump’s statements about former Miss Universe Alicia Machado’s weight, which Clinton used to attack Trump Sunday night.

The number of women likely voters who think Trump doesn’t respect women shot up from 64 percent to nearly 70 percent after the recording was made public, including 53 percent who said he has no respect for them at all.

Male likely voters had an even more dramatic reaction to the videos release, as 55 percent now think Trump doesn’t respect women, up from 45 percent.

Just under four in 10 likely voters said the 2005 tape will have an influence on their vote in the election just a month away. The same percentage, 39 percent, said Trump should bow out of the race after the comments, but the majority at 59 percent said he should stay in.

And 81 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning likely voters said the revelations made absolutely no impact on their vote. Only 1 percent of Republicans said Trump should drop out of the campaign and 64 percent of Democrats said he should.

Sixty-five percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters said the tape makes them less likely to support the candidate, and 31 percent of independent voters said the same thing.

The online poll of 23,329 likely voters was conducted Oct. 3-9 and has an error estimate of plus or minus 1 percentage point.
