A highly-publicized back-and-forth between Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina and the ladies of ABC’s “The View,” resulted in a showdown between the candidate and the hosts on Friday morning.
Earlier this week Fiorina challenged the women to a face-off. Not only did they discuss the hosts’ previous comments that Fiorina’s face looked “demented” and should be a Halloween mask, they also debated feminism and what it means to be “pro-woman.”
“I’ve been called all kinds of things,” Fiorina said. “I’ve been called a bimbo from the time I was a secretary to the time I was a CEO. I think all too often we demonize a messenger because we don’t like the message.”
Host Joy Behar asked Carly how she could be a “feminist” while opposing Roe v. Wade, government mandated maternity leave, and raising the minimum wage.
“That is the litany of the left,” Fiorina said, “that the only way you can be pro-woman is to agree with the left’s ‘prescriptions’ for women.”
The discussion turned to Planned Parenthood and Fiorina said that the majority of Americans are horrified that the organizations are harvesting baby parts from late-term abortions.
“I’m going to stop you right there,” Whoopi Goldberg interrupted. “No ones harvesting baby parts — come on, girl.”
“That offends my sensibility to hear you say something like that, when you know it’s not true,” Behar added.
The hosts went on to ask Fiorina pointed questions about her low poll numbers and how she stacks up against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.
They also asked Fiorina how she would “get a thicker skin” to accept the “humorous” things that are said about her.
“I make fun of Hillary’s pantsuits, Hillary’s husband’s sex life, John Boehner’s tan…I don’t understand why any politician is exempt from my comedic jokes,” Behar said.
“I think that there are real issues in this nation that we ought to be able to discuss in a fact-based, civil fashion,” Fiorina said.
However, despite her continued calls to “discuss the real issues,” there wasn’t much of substance discussed in this interview.
