Police arrest Jane Fonda for the second week in a row at climate strike

Police arrested actress Jane Fonda for the second time in two weeks as she protested for action on climate change outside the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Fonda, 81, has sworn to join climate protests on Capitol Hill every Friday until the United States government acts to fight climate change. She has now been arrested two Fridays in a row and was joined by fellow Grace and Frankie star Sam Waterston on her second arrest.

Along with Fonda and Waterston, 15 other protesters were arrested on Friday, Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said.

Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg inspired Fonda to conduct weekly protests outside the Capitol known as “Fire Drill Friday,” according to Fonda’s website.

“I will be on the Capitol every Friday, rain or shine, inspired and emboldened by the incredible movement our youth have created,” Fonda said on her website. “I can no longer stand by and let our elected officials ignore – and even worse – empower – the industries that are destroying our planet for profit. We can not continue to stand for this.”
