The Russell Senate Office Building was renamed for the late Sen. John McCain â at least in Google Maps.
Sens. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., have pushed to rename the building after McCain, who died Saturday of brain cancer at the age of 81, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to let a bipartisan committee determine how to create a permanent tribute to McCain.
McCainâs name was listed on the map Wednesday, despite the lack of an official renaming.

Map users are able to make edits about a place, such as adding a place and editing information about a location, according to Google.
A search for the âRussell Senate Office Buildingâ in Maps still shows the building named as such. A search for âMcCain Senate Office Buildingâ reflects the possible name change. Looking at the map without searching either name shows the building listed as the âMcCain Senate Office Building.â
A spokesperson for Google told the Washington Examiner the company would soon be implementing a fix to the inaccuracy.
“We empower people to contribute their local knowledge to the map, but we recognize that there may be occasional inaccuracies or premature changes suggested by users. When this happens, we work to address as quickly as possible. We have implemented a fix for this issue that is rolling out now,” the spokesperson said.
Google has come under fire by President Trump and conservatives, who claim the search engine is suppressing positive stories about them. On Monday, the Trump administration threatened to regulate the tech giant, despite company executives denying Google suppresses news favorable to conservatives.
Googleâs search engine algorithms are updated continuously to make sure they yield the most relevant results without factoring in any political ideology, the company said.
