A lot of conservatives will like that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii got nasty with California Sen. Kamala Harris at the Democratic presidential primary debate on Wednesday, and they have reason for it. But where is Tulsi distinguishing herself when it really matters?
I gather that she’s a non-interventionist unlike most of her party. That’s supposed to make her something of a moderate politically. But where is she on healthcare? Where is she on immigration? Where is she on education? I have no clue. I don’t even know where she stands on the ridiculous impeachment investigation.
Republicans like Gabbard because she’s disrupting the primary. She is. But aside from that, she could actually be a legitimate disrupter in the race, someone who could have done what Michael Bloomberg will fail to do when he enters. She could have said what needs to be said on every issue that matters to independent and moderate Democratic voters.
But she’s not doing that. She’s getting in little tiffs with Hillary Clinton and her fellow Democratic candidate Sen. Kamala Harris.
They count for something. But they don’t count where it matters. She’s not running a long game.
