'I feel like I’ve been called': Sarah Sanders signals run for Arkansas governorship

Sarah Huckabee Sanders teased that she may run for governor of Arkansas, saying she believes she was “called” to run for office.

“There are two types of people who run for office,” Sanders said on Sunday, according to the New York Times. “People that are called and people that just want to be a senator or governor. I feel like I’ve been called.”

The next governor’s race in Arkansas is not until 2022, and Republican Asa Hutchinson currently holds the position. Sanders, 37, has been rumored to be planning a run since leaving the White House and after President Trump urged her to consider it.

The former White House press secretary said, “If I do [run], it will because I feel called to do it and because I feel I can offer something to the state, and I can do something to help move the state further ahead and grow it in a positive way, and I fit what the state needs at that time.”

If she runs, Sanders would be looking to fill the position her father, Mike Huckabee, held for more than a decade, from 1996 to 2007. She left the White House in June to spend more time with her family after serving in the Trump administration for about two years.
