Stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Army Sgt. Keshawn Lewis might not be able to see his children this Christmas. But they will definitely be able to see him.
Sending a videotaped Christmas greeting through Comcast Corps. Troop Greetings On Demand program, Sgt. Lewis was able to wish his wife Chante, 28, and children Micha, 11, Keyshawn Jr., 6, Shawan, 5, and Keante, 3, a Merry Christmas.
“I was so excited to see him [on TV],” said wife Chante, of Reisterstown. “The kids really enjoyed watching it, they watched it over and over again. They were kissing and hugging the TV and it was a great opportunity for my family to see him in person.”
This is the first year that Comcast is providing the “On Demand” greetings for Maryland. Part of Comcast “On Demand” digital cable package, the servicemen?s greetings can be watched for free at any time of day.
The two largest clips of greetings are 15 minutes long, each containing about 60 messages that run for around 10 seconds per message. Approximately 370 greetings are available throughout Comcast?s Eastern Division, with 119 made specifically for Maryland families.
“What?s really great is we can harness the power of our On Demand technology to make the greetings available to service members families whenever they want to watch it,” said Comcast Eastern Division public relations manager Anna Custer.
Comcast is even looking out for the families who do not have digital cable, providing a free digital cable upgrade for them during the Dec. 13 to Jan. 22 span of the broadcast greetings.
Despite receiving the message from Sgt. Lewis, his family would be most happy if they got one present that wasn?t wrapped up under the tree.
With a little Christmas magic, Chante and the children are hopeful that their hero might make his way home.
