South Carolina police warn residents to ‘lock their doors’ amid search for armed suspect

Law enforcement in South Carolina told some residents in Chester County to lock their doors and remove firearms from their vehicles this week as officers continue to search for an “armed and dangerous” suspect.

Several police departments are involved in the search for 27-year-old Tyler Donnet Terry, who reportedly fled after law enforcement attempted to pull over a vehicle on Monday in Richburg near the North Carolina border.

Officers pursued the vehicle, which eventually crashed, and the suspect fled the scene. The driver, identified as Adrienne Simpson, was arrested.

The Chester County Sheriff’s Office initially reported that the driver fired shots at officers during the pursuit, striking two vehicles, but a spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner that it was allegedly Terry, who was riding in the car as a passenger, who fired the shots.

The Chester County Sheriff’s Office released a video and a new description for the suspect on Thursday, saying he is wearing “a blue button-up Burns Auto shirt with the name David on it,” along with black pants and dark Crocs shoes. Police said he was sighted near Highway 9.

“He is to considered be considered [sic] armed and dangerous,” the Chester County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. “All residents in the area are encouraged to remain inside, lock their doors, remove firearms from vehicles and ensure your vehicles are locked, and report suspicious activity to 911 immediately.”

The sheriff’s offices in York, Chester, and Lancaster counties are working with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in their search for Terry.

The Chester City Police Department obtained five warrants for Terry for attempted murder, all of which are related to shooting incidents that occurred on May 2 in Chester, the sheriff’s office said.
