A new poll of U.S. adults found President Trump’s approval numbers are on the rise after a turbulent first six and a half months in office.
The Monmouth University poll concluded 41 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job in office and 49 percent are not happy with his work.
The Aug. 10-14 survey saw a two-point increase in support and three-point drop in opposition from July’s findings. The poll was taken last Thursday through Monday, and did not capture Americans’ views in light of Trump’s statements about the Charlottesville, Va., car attack.
Trump’s positive numbers have risen in recent months and are more than double that of Congress’s approval ratings.
Only 18 percent of Americans have a positive view of House and Senate lawmakers in Washington compared to the 69 percent who do not.
People are glad Trump is calling out members of Congress on accomplishing legislative goals, but are not thrilled with his approach to getting that done.
Exactly 49 percent say it’s a “good thing” Trump’s behavior in office is making career politicians in Washington feel uncomfortable compared to 39 percent who disagree.
The majority — 53 percent — want Trump to change the way he treats Republican leaders on Capitol Hill and 35 percent think he should continue to act the same way in hopes of getting major legislative items passed.
Only one-third of people would be satisfied if Trump’s legacy accomplishment as president was disrupting how career politicians in Washington operate, while 57 percent would consider inaction on jobs, infrastructure, and taxes to mean his administration has failed.
The poll was taken by cellphone and landline phones with 805 U.S. adults nationwide and had a 3.5 percentage point margin of error.
