Arnold Schwarzenegger donates 25 shelters to homeless veterans

Hasta la vista, homelessness.

Former California governor and Hollywood superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger announced on Thursday that he donated 25 homes to homeless veterans in California.

“Today, I celebrated Christmas early. The 25 homes I donated for homeless veterans were installed here in LA,” he tweeted Thursday. “It was fantastic to spend some time with our heroes and welcome them into their new homes.”

Schwarzenegger also gave shoutouts to Village for Vets, the secretary of veteran affairs, and American Veterans for helping him with the endeavor.

“We proved that when we all work together, we can solve any problem,” he said.

Schwarzenegger donated $250,000 to Village for Vets, which provided the houses, Fox 11 Los Angeles reported.

The shelters will “provide an elevated standard of living from tent encampments while veterans are on their journey to find permanent housing and stability,” the Village for Vets website says. The shelters also come with heat, electricity, and air conditioning, a Village for Vets employee told Fox 11.

“This is what Christmas is all about,” the 74-year-old actor said in a follow-up tweet. “All of you have the power to do something for someone else this holiday season. It doesn’t have to be big. Just give a few minutes of your time to help someone else.”

The former governor has been a vocal advocate about housing and homelessness in California.

Schwarzenegger thanked Donald Trump for helping California combat homelessness after the former president and then-Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson hosted a homelessness summit in February 2020.
