Rand Paul chides tweet by singer Richard Marx ‘encouraging violence’ against him

Sen. Rand Paul says he plans to speak with officials at Twitter late Tuesday about a tweet from musician Richard Marx he perceived as violent.

Marx, a popular ’80s artist, tweeted Sunday, “I’ll say it again: If I ever meet Rand Paul’s neighbor I’m going to hug him and buy him as many drinks as he can consume,” referencing a 2017 physical attack against Paul by Kentucky resident Rene Boucher over a dispute involving yard waste. Boucher pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress.

ENVELOPE WITH WHITE POWDER AND DEATH THREAT SENT TO RAND PAUL’S HOME

On Monday, a large envelope containing white powder was delivered to Paul’s Kentucky home, which is presently being tested for toxic chemicals. The sender is not known. U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI are investigating the package.

“I take these threats immensely seriously,” Paul tweeted Monday night after receiving the package.

Paul told the Washington Examiner he is fed up with the online tech giant over the violent threats he receives.

“I’ll bet you there are a thousand comments every day on Twitter, wishing violence on me. Twitter doesn’t do a damn thing to take them down, and this afternoon, I’m going to be speaking to Twitter about it because I’m just sick of it,” he said.

He continued, “Twitter, I think, claims to have a policy on violence, or encouraging violence, but they don’t seem to. They apparently answered today that they’re just fine with [Marx] encouraging violence on my family,” Paul lamented. “And I think that’s a real shame.”

Marx, however, a prolific tweeter to his 300,000 followers, replied on his Twitter account that his tweet about Paul was just “a wise-crack about Rand Paul’s neighbor.” He added, “I’m the only person on Twitter who’s ever referenced Rand Paul’s neighbor.”
