House Judiciary GOP goes viral with Captain Jack Sparrow tweet

The Wednesday tweet from the verified account of the House Judiciary Committee GOP features a GIF of a heroic-looking Depp as pirate Captain Jack Sparrow from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series.

Within 30 minutes, the tweet had been retweeted nearly 2,500 times, most of them quote tweets. Many of the comments were negative, criticizing the account for sending such a tweet and calling for it to be deleted.

A jury found Heard, who is herself an actress, guilty of defamation for a 2018 op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post claiming she was a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
