Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough vowed to end the “Veterans Row” homeless encampment by the beginning of November.
There are roughly 40 veterans living in the homeless encampment outside the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center.

McDonough visited the facility earlier this month, and he spoke to the disenfranchised veterans.
“I think this is a question of rolling up our sleeves and getting to work and getting it done,” he said, according to Military.com. “That’s what I pledged to the veterans I spoke with on Veterans Row that day and what the country expects us to do.”
The secretary also noted that the VA assigned a social worker and a specialized homelessness resource employee to help the people. The department hopes to find the homeless veterans temporary housing by Nov. 1.
McDonough opted not to speak as to why resources were not previously utilized for Veterans Row.
Approximately 10% of the more than 37,000 veterans experiencing homelessness in January 2020 lived in Los Angeles.

McDonough also announced on Wednesday that the VA would look to house an additional 500 veterans in Los Angeles by the end of the year.
