Four family members charged with murdering neighbor in case of ‘mistaken identity’

Four family members allegedly killed an innocent man while seeking revenge in what police called a case of “mistaken identity.”

Eddie Clark, 29, was shot near his home in the suburbs of Houston, Texas, on Monday night and died from a gunshot wound, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Joe Argueta, 19, his parents, and uncle, were set on getting revenge on the man who had been threatening them and vandalizing their home, but they exacted it on the wrong person, deputies said.

The family thought they saw the recent vandal, whom they believed to be a friend of Argueta’s ex-girlfriend, on Monday in his black Dodge Charger, so they jumped into action.

They allegedly boxed his car in, and he turned around to drive away as they chased him on foot. Argueta admitted to firing multiple shots at the car, and Clark died of a fatal gunshot wound, according to ABC13, which cited court records.

“This is an example of taking the law into your own hands,” a hearing officer admonished Argueta in court Wednesday morning. “Not going through the proper authorities to resolve any other harm or destruction that was being done to your own residence or your own home. It still doesn’t justify taking the law into your own hands and mistaking the person.”

The mother and son were arrested, and both had bond set, while the father and uncle are believed to be on the run.
