Uninsured patients will be able to receive a vasectomy, a procedure that can cost up to $1,000 if insurance does not cover it or if a person is not covered under a health plan, at three of the organization’s clinics between Nov. 3-5, according to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri said it has already surpassed the number of vasectomies done in 2021, performing almost 200 this year compared to the 142 performed in 2021, per the Springfield News-Leader.
Other health providers have said interest in the procedure spiked after the court decision, though it’s unclear if that has resulted in more vasectomies performed nationwide. National vasectomy statistics from Planned Parenthood for this year are not available.
The procedure is one of the only forms of male birth control, which can be reversed in most cases, that prevents sperm from exiting the body and is considered over 99% successful. Roughly 500,000 vasectomies are performed each year, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
