With his black gloves, trademark facial hair and booming voice, The Rent is too Damn High party’s Jimmy McMillan caused quite the commotion when he showed up at CPAC Friday afternoon.
Besides his general concerns about the rent being too high, he encouraged the young CPAC attendees gawking at him in the hotel’s lobby to get more politically active.
“Don’t you see what I’m saying?” he said. “You can’t blame Obama, you can’t blame Ron Paul, you can’t blame Sarah Palin…you’re not getting involved…Jimmy McMillan is driving the train to Washington, D.C., you’re gonna get on board.”
He also encouraged the conservative crowd to start discussing different issues.
“They asked me, ‘Mr. McMillan, what are you going to do about abortion?’ I’m hungry now, I want a hamburger with cheese,” he said. “They’ve been talking about that for over 90 years. Enough. When they gonna talk about rent, rent, mortgage, mortgage? When are they going to discuss the issues that are causing you to suffer? And hunger?”
He then started a chant.
“I’m here to change it all up,” he said. “Why? Because the rent is too damn high.”
