White House: Biden ‘passes a cognitive test every day’

President Joe Biden did not take a cognitive test during his physical, but the White House said he doesn’t need one.

“He passes a cognitive test every day,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “every day as he moves from one topic to another topic, understanding the granular level of these topics.”

Jean-Pierre noted that Biden spoke about crime Wednesday, will visit the southern border Thursday, and is set to give the State of the Union address next week, saying the wide range of topics indicates his mental fitness.

“The president doesn’t need a cognitive test,” she said. “The doctor doesn’t believe he needs one.”

Roughly 20 doctors were involved in Biden’s physical, conducted this morning at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

Concerns about the president’s age and health resurfaced earlier this month with the conclusion of the investigation into his mishandling of classified documents. Special counsel Robert Hur opted not to charge the president in the matter but wrote in his report that Biden displayed a failing memory, a characterization heartily opposed by the White House.

White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor led the assessment and stopped by Jean-Pierre’s office afterward but did not appear before the press. Biden said, “There is nothing different than last year” regarding his physical.
