Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz marked Cinco de Mayo by arguing “Dangerous Donald” Trump would hurt relations with Mexico.
“That Donald Trump became his party’s presumptive nominee on the eve of Cinco de Mayo is fitting, a reminder of just how wrong his divisive and hateful rhetoric has been since the very first day of his campaign. Today is a reminder that Dangerous Donald would threaten America’s relationships with our closest allies, and make our communities less safe,” Wasserman Schultz wrote on Thursday.
She added, “Like the brave souls that day in Puebla a century and a half ago, we must show the spirit and determination every single day between now and Nov. 8th to defeat Trump and his Republican Party in November, and ensure our country continues to live up to our history and our values.”
Since Trump was proclaimed the presumptive GOP nominee on Tuesday night, the DNC has sent out numerous statements condemning the Republican Party for choosing Trump to represent them. Throughout his campaign, Wasserman Schultz has also condemned Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants being “criminals” and “rapists.”
“So as we celebrate a day that reminds us of our shared history, cultural and familial ties, the Democratic Party reaffirms our commitment to exemplifying the values that made America great,” Wasserman-Schultz concluded.
